Many of us hold the memories of the past as precious keepsake moments. Reminiscing about the different seasons of our lives can bring forth a great sense of awareness and humbling reminders. Sometimes, you have to go back and acknowledge past experiences in order to move forward. You can take a moment throughout your day and reflect on His grace and mercy that has continuously kept you surrounded. A measure and moment of reflection becomes necessary for us to appreciate the past moments, to recognize God’s track record and to retrieve the reminders from His word in our lives.
Appreciation of past times during the mountain and valley seasons can help you in navigating present moments. Time always has a way of refreshing our memories of past events. Even in painful moments, they have granted you a sense of awareness about how God pulled you through that fragile time. Gratefulness can become the center of your thoughts as you reminisce on the seasons of you have experienced. You would not be the person you have evolved in to if it were not for certain situations that provided you with the endurance you carry today. That season in your life when you did not know what to do; now has given you complete clarity in your walk with God. What you are going through will eventually be used for your good. God does not place anything in your life if it will not serve a purpose in you. When you reach moments of uncertainty in your life, look back on what you have experienced and appreciate those difficult times, and how God has used those moments for His glory. Finding strength in those dark times will now be a key to unlock how you will view future sufferings.
Recognizing God’s track record in moments of reflection will be evidence of what God has done for you. Looking back allows you to see the ways He made in your life. You can see the miracles that were performed in your favor. His joy was within you during your sorrow. He provided for you when you had nothing left to give. He showed up when you were in the darkness of hard times. God changed that season for you when you were about to walk away. God healed you when you thought nothing could be done. There is evidence placed in your past heartaches of how God moved on your behalf. There is evidence of His power in what you went through. God’s evidence is what solved the case for you. His track record of His goodness is proof that God can make an encore performance of miracles for you—just as He did last time. You can hold on to that evidence from God in upcoming moments of difficulty.
Reminders from the word will guide us in reflecting on the past and in our present moment. God’s reminders are apparent in our lives. Jesus reminds us that by His stripes we are healed. God reminds us to not be dismayed; He is with us wherever we go. Jesus reminds us of our faith— “You of little faith, why are you so afraid?” All of these reminders are indications of His love for us. While we were stuck in moments of doubt, pain and unbelief—He still was with you. He still defended you. He still kept you. He still healed you. He still cared about you. His reminders of this, are apparent in our past trials and tribulations. One moment of reflection with God can change your perspective throughout your day. A moment of reflection will align you with gratitude, the evidence of God’s work in your life and reminders from His word. Reflection will always serve as a reminder of past victories and future victories that are being won on your behalf.
