The culture of our world is one driven by results and success. Our worldly systems have given us permission to do all the things. As believers, we have to recognize that we are not called to everything. We have been set apart. (Deuteronomy 14:2; Romans 12:2). Because we have the capacity to do it, does not mean that God is there. The anointing is what makes the difference in our lives. Anything that we do apart from the Father cannot be sustained in our own hands. The story of the Tower of Babel (Genesis 11:1-9) gives us real life application to the physical and spiritual implications of trying to build something apart from God. In this time period, the world had one common language that was used. In the plains of Shinar, the people decided to build a tower that would reach the heavens in pursuit to make a name for themselves. The Lord came down to the city, disapproving, confused the language that the people spoke so that their building would cease. Building this tower was not part of the plans of the Lord. Their pride caused a mighty fall; they tried to build something to boast about. Their intentions were of self-establishment. Physically, they could no longer build the tower due to the confusion of the “babel” language that God imposed on them. Spiritually, they were deaf to God’s warning; which in turn, resulted in disobedience and destruction. In the eyes of the people, it seemed right to build this tower—ultimately, leading to their demise. What we currently see can impact how we perceive direction. Ask God to give you discernment over what is pleasing to Him. Though we all fall short everyday, God is still ready to partner with us to build His kingdom. Building the things of God will be absolutely worthwhile.

Building alongside the Architect and Creator Himself will bring forth springs of favor and fruit. (In reference to building: meaning your assignment, purpose & plans from God.) It can be tempting to go our way and make things happen without the help of God. Particularly when the silence of our situation becomes deafening and the heart of our desires grow cold. Those are the moments when the enemy temps us to believe that we should just do the things we want to do to fill the void. Cling to the voice of God as He gives us clarity and wisdom. To help us continually build what God requires, it takes a posture of constant surrender and submission to keep us in position with the Lord. Some seasons require us to be still, while other seasons will require the use of our hands—you will never go wrong following the Blueprint. The building process may not look like the way of the world. It may not be approved by people, but it will be established in the beautiful timing of the Holy Spirit. Your moment of obedience will trickle down for generations to come. Whatever you build with God has the supernatural ability to change the atmosphere. It is tempting to look at the buildings that others may be creating around you and compare. You have a place to build with God—just as much as your neighbor does. It takes time building the things of God. Building God’s way will always prevail over the world’s way. As much as you want to chase after the building itself—chase after God. He will not only give you the building, but He will give you the instructions for a Kingdom that will never perish.
