You have been waiting and waiting. It feels as if this season has turned into waste. You have become stuck in a cycle of hardships. Your suffering has disconnected you from reality. The painful moments of silence have slowly become tied to your frustration. You have seen the promises that God will perform. You know the plans He has for you. What happens when you need God to step in right now? You need that financial breakthrough. You need the healing—God will sustain you in the meanwhile. It may not be His timing to create an exit, but He will meet your sorrow with relief. It may not be time to see the manifestation of what He placed in your heart, but He knows how to comfort and keep you in your deprivation. Though you may not currently encounter the revelation He has promised you, He will carry your broken heart in His Hands. He knows how to sustain you right where you are. Where do we find God’s sustaining power in scripture? The story of Elijah gives us an account of how God created a unique sustainability for his prophet in the midst of a gruesome drought.
Elijah just announced a great drought in the land. In the face of this, God gave Elijah specific directions that led him to the brook of Cherith to supply his needs. God sent ravens to continually give food for Elijah. The depth of this encounter shows us that God sent His sustaining power to Elijah. There was nothing left in the land to make it livable for anyone—but God saw fit to make a way. Through Elijah’s assignment, God kept him. We can take note of how God did not completely remove the drought, but rather produced covering that sustained Elijah until his next assignment. God may not eliminate the problem you are facing, but He will make provision that will uphold you in this season. God will give you rest for your weary soul in the middle of your grief. Though it may feel as if you are falling, God is grabbing your fragile hand with His strength. Elijah received enough sustainability from God to take him from glory to glory. God will do the same for you. Nevertheless, until your season changes—the mark of His sustaining strength will pull you through.
