Our emotions are a normal reaction to the environment around us; however, our emotions are also a signal that we require God’s help in that moment. Our emotions should not lead us, but become an indication and invitation of the word of God over our lives. Our emotions are strong, but God is stronger. Our response to situations should always prompt us to seek the presence of God. The emotions that we feel everyday fluctuate and are temporary. It is vital for us to take those moments of vulnerability to God. Let your emotions guide you to His presence. When you are overcome with strong feelings and emotions of this world, call on Jesus to help you navigate what is happening to you. God created our emotions. They are normal and help us to understand and acknowledge the cause and root of our feelings in that moment.
Being led by our emotions can instill fear and insecurity within us. We cannot act on our emotions every time they arise. When we are driven by our feelings, the flesh becomes our pilot. Your emotions now have power over you. You are steered by what you believe, rather than honoring what God has said to be true in your life. When you follow your emotions, the enemy knows how to prey on those moments; however, you can always fight back with the word of God. Speak the promises of God over your situation whenever the temptation arises to be led by your emotions. Emotions are a part of us. We have an emotional response to everything—whether a big or small response, it is normal. Learning to identify when it becomes out of your control, should guide you to seek Jesus. Our emotions can become a spot of deficiency if we allow it.
We have power through Christ to overcome that moment. In moments of true desperation and defeat, seek the Lord and His wisdom and let go of your own understanding. Find rest in Him. We cannot make important decisions and choices when we are tired, upset, sad or confused. Before you are led by your emotions, pray for the strength and understanding of God to guide you. God often gives us the emotions that we are feeling to prompt us to seek Him. When we learn to lead by the spirit of God in our emotions, we become better at navigating through this difficult world. The spirit will never lead you astray. Trust the fullness of God in the midst of your emotions. Let your emotions always guide you to the Feet of Jesus.
“Do not be anxious about anything, but in everything by prayer and supplication with thanksgiving let your requests be made known to God. And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and your minds in Christ Jesus.” -Philippians 4:6-7
“But I say, walk by the Spirit, and you will not gratify the desires of the flesh. For the desires of the flesh are against the Spirit, and the desires of the Spirit are against the flesh, for these are opposed to each other, to keep you from doing the things you want to do.” -Galatians 5:16-17
“We demolish arguments and every pretension that sets itself up against the knowledge of God, and we take captive every thought to make it obedient to Christ.” -2 Corinthians 10:5
