Chasing Higher Ground

“For My thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways My ways,” declares the Lord. “As the heavens are higher than the earth, so are My ways higher than your ways and My thoughts than your thoughts.-Isaiah 55:8-9

Our knowledge apart from God is frail and flimsy. As we operate within the flesh, we adapt information through our own channel of understanding. In processing our knowledge, we rely on the familiarity of what we have witnessed before. Our understanding cannot stand alone. It is our own interpretation of what we are experiencing; therefore, our knowledge becomes infiltrated by our own pride, indifferences and fears. Relying on the Holy Spirit removes the need for our position to decipher and define what God is doing in a season. Relying solely on Jesus allows us to decrease in our own ability and understanding. Trusting in the Lord with all of your heart means casting all of your burdens onto Him. Let God become the anchor to your thoughts. Trust the knowledge of God—even when you do not understand. His ways are higher and His thoughts are not ours.

Our minds are constantly changing and shifting by the minute. The voice of God’s understanding is constant. The words of God remain the same. When you cannot comprehend what is happening in life, trace back to the words that God has spoken over you. Sometimes it is difficult to navigate in the incomprehensible seasons. When the loudness of the uncertainties turn distracting, it is hard to seek the understanding of God’s voice. When you are going through the motions of your day, it becomes exhausting not knowing what lies next. In God, we can find comfort in knowing that He holds our thoughts and perceptions in His Hands. His ways are not our ways. He knows your struggle to find the sense in what is happening to you. He knows you are perplexed by trying to figure out what you are going through. Lean not on your own understanding. Give your weary mind to God.

God speaks volumes in His reminders of heaven’s promises and beauty in us. Trust Jesus and His higher ways. The wisdom of God will never come back void to you. Trust the way of Jesus in your life. It may not make sense or it may not be want you desire in this moment, but it is in the plan of God. Our ways and thoughts can only reach so far. Our minds can only comprehend so much. What you cannot fathom in this season, rely on the higher thoughts of the Lord. The thoughts of God concerning you supersede anything that you could ever hope for or imagine. The ways of God go far beyond what you can see right now. Seek the knowledge of God and He will give you understanding of His ways in your life. Our own strength will fade. Rely on the everlasting ways of God. We are nothing without Him.

“Trust in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding.”-Proverbs 3:5

“Abide in me, and I in you. As the branch cannot bear fruit by itself, unless it abides in the vine, neither can you, unless you abide in me. I am the vine; you are the branches. Whoever abides in me and I in him, he it is that bears much fruit, for apart from me you can do nothing.- John 15:4-5

“Not that we are competent in ourselves to claim anything for ourselves, but our competence comes from God.” -2 Corinthians 3:5
