Walking with God’s Discernment

Have you ever found yourself in a situation that has left your spirit torn? Your spirit feels completely and utterly tainted. You may feel confused and doubtful. Your spirit is restless because you know the truth that the Holy Spirit has deposited into you. You are fighting essentially between what you know to be true in your life versus what you are feeling. Those instincts that you may feel about someone or something is the Holy Spirit providing you His truth in that moment. Trust the spirit of discernment in your life. Discernment is His wisdom that is given to us. Discernment is not there to frighten you or throw you off you track, but rather to show you the things that the Holy Spirit wants to use to guide you throughout your day. When we walk in discernment, we are also walking in His obedience.

Sometimes the Lord may show or reveal to you something that may seem unpleasant or even disheartening; be assured that discernment is a beautiful thing when you can begin to unfold the layers that contain information that God has for you. God will never let a moment of discernment bypass you if it did not serve a purpose in you. Following the wisdom that is placed in your spirit will never lead you wrong. How many times have we simply brushed off something that has been knocking at our heart? How many times do we ignore that nudge from God because we are in denial of the situation? We should instead trust God’s voice. God is never going to speak empty truths to your spirit. Many times we second-guess our feelings because it may not feel right. We second-guess the dreams that He has bestowed upon us because it does not make sense. When you find yourself second-guessing the emotions that you are feeling, take it to His presence. You can seek out confirmation and contentment from Him.

Those feelings of mixed-messages and emotions are there for a reason. Your spirit should not feel turmoil over a situation. If you feel everything but peace over something, bring it up with God. There is a reason your spirit feels uneasy—trust it. The spirit of discernment may not make sense to everyone else, but it will be exactly what the Lord wants to disclose through you. It may feel lonely and frustrating at times when you are positioning yourself with God’s instructions. The Holy Spirit will never lead you astray. If your spirit is telling you that something is not right within a situation or within a person—trust it. The spirit of discernment is also there for us to navigate the evil that may come up against us. You have the spirit of discernment to go back to when the enemy tries to overstep in your world. Learning to trust and decipher the spirit of discernment in your life will be a lifelong practice. You will have to cultivate His voice and understand exactly how God speaks through you. Keep working with God by not ignoring the signs you see and the knowings you feel in your spirit. Trust His voice in your life. God may place something within your spirit years before it actually manifests. Write it down. Make it known to your heart. When the time comes for that moment to come in fruition, you will be fully equipped with His discernment to guide you along the way. Walking in God’s discernment will open new barriers of what He can perform through you.
