Planning in the Unexpected

If you are a true planner at heart, you are more than likely familiar with all of the unexpected moments that can go wrong in the outcome of your plans. Honestly, you probably have back-up plans for your back-up plans because you know firsthand the heartache of things happening that are completely out of your control. Planning is an essential part of our everyday lives. In spite of all the planning that we do, what happens when life continually decides to override our envisions? What do you do when nothing works in the way that you hoped it would? What happens when life just feels like empty and broken ideas and intentions? Eventually, you feel the strain of failed plans and outcomes. Your heart becomes shattered by what could or should have been. It is easy to become hopeless after experiencing collapsing plans.

When it looks like you have everything planned out perfectly, here comes life with other plans. It is absolutely frustrating and disheartening— especially when it is something your heart desires and longs for. When things do not work out—do not fear. Do you know that God has a beautifully crafted plan in mind for you? How can we be in charge of planning our whole lives, when we did not create our lives? When He created us, He also created all of the devastating and wonderful things that we would have to go through. God’s plans will outweigh your plans. It does not matter how great of a planner you may feel you are—His plans will supersede your plans in life. That becomes the place where we have to walk by faith and not by sight. When God is ready for that purpose to be released in your life, it will wreck all of your plans. You must let go of your plans, and grab hold unto His purpose. God will interrupt our plans in the best way possible. He is the ultimate planner.

You do not have to plan so strategically with God. When you allow yourself to collaborate with God and His visions and plans, then you can turn your failed plans in to availability for Him to use. What seems like a failed plan to you, is an opportunity for God to step in and give you His best. When it seems like you have tried all your plans—try His plans. Life is unexpected and unpredictable. Nonetheless, in all that we experience is evidence that God still has your life in His Hands. His purpose is greater than your plans.

“Many are the plans in a person’s heart, but it is the Lord’s purpose that prevails.” -Proverbs 19:21

“For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways,” declares the Lord. As the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways and my thoughts than your thoughts. -Isaiah 55:8-9

“The Lord makes firm the steps of the one who delights in him;” -Psalm 37:23
